NVQ Certificate in Plant Operations (Construction) Level 2

The qualification will develop knowledge and skills in areas such as preparing and operating compact cranes to lift and transfer loads in the workplace and preparing and operating ergonomic manipulating machines to lift and transfer loads in the workplace.

Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Plant Operations (Construction)

The Diploma in Plant Operations — General at level 2 will develop knowledge and skills in slinging and signalling the movement of loads and guiding and moving loads or machinery.

It includes preparing and operating cranes or machinery to:

  • lift and transfer loads
  • excavate materials
  • extract materials
Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Plastering (Construction)

The NVQ Diploma in Plastering (Construction) Level 2 will develop knowledge and skills in areas such as applying solid and finishing plaster and solid render to surfaces and producing and repairing fibrous plaster components. Learners can specialise in laying sand and cement screeds, applying projection plaster and render, and installing mechanically fixed plasterboard.

This qualification covers the following areas:

  • Solid
  • Fibrous
  • Heritage plastering – solid and fibrous
Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting Occupations (Construction)

This qualification will develop knowledge and skills in areas such as preparing surfaces for painting and applying paint systems by brush.

The qualification has been updated with an additional pathway for heritage painting, so there are now three pathways:

  • Decorative Finishing (Painter)
  • Industrial Painting Occupations (Industrial Painter)
  • Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting Occupations (Heritage Painter)
Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Trowel Occupations (Construction)

The qualification will develop knowledge and skills in trowel work for the construction sector. Learners can specialise in erecting and setting out masonry structures, concrete, maintaining slate and tile roofing, installing drainage, plastering or rendering.

This qualification covers the following areas:

  • Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
  • Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace
  • Erecting masonry structures in the workplace
  • Setting out masonry structures in the workplace
  • Conserving or restoring stonemasonry, brickwork or earthen structures in the workplace
  • Preparing and mixing lime mortars in the workplace
  • Erecting masonry cladding in the workplace
  • Erecting thin joint masonry structures in the workplace
  • Placing and finishing non-specialist concrete in the workplace
  • Maintaining slate and tile roofing in the workplace
  • Repairing and maintaining masonry structures in the workplace

  • Applying solid render to background surfaces and producing finishes in the workplace

Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations (Construction)

The NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations (Construction) Level 2 will develop knowledge and skills in areas such as general health, safety and welfare; productive working practices; and moving, handling and storing resources. Learners can specialise in installing first and second fixing components; manufacturing routine architectural joinery; setting out and fabricating timber framework; installing frames and hinges and internal mouldings; erecting timber walls, roofs and floors; setting up and using cutting and shaping machines; or manufacturing routine architectural joinery products.

This qualification covers the following areas:

  • architectural joinery
  • structural post and beam carpentry
  • light structural timber framing
  • timber frame erection
  • timber decks and cladding

Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision

The (NVQ) Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision will develop knowledge and skills required for occupational work supervision within the construction industry.

This qualification covers the following areas:

  •  confirming work activities and resources for an occupational work area in the workplace
  •   developing and maintaining good occupational working relationships in the workplace
  •   confirming the occupational method of work in the workplace
  •   implementing and maintaining health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  •   co-ordinating and organising work operations in the workplace

 

Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Supervision

The (NVQ) Diploma in Construction Site Supervision (Construction) ( ) will develop knowledge and skills in areas such as health, safety, welfare and environmental protection. Learners can specialise in several different area of Construction Site Supervision;

  •  Building and Civil Engineering
  •  Highways and Maintenance
  •  Residential Development
  •  Conservation
  • Demolition
  • Tunnelling

This qualification covers the following areas:

  •  Assessing and Recommending Work Methods for Carrying out Site Operations in the Workplace

  •  Controlling Work Process Against Agreed Programmes in the Workplace

 

Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management

The NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management will develop knowledge and skills in areas such as site management within the construction industry.

This qualification covers areas including building and civil engineering, conservation, demolition, highways and maintenance and residential development.

 

SMSTS

After completing the SMSTS course, delegates should:

• Manage health and safety on a construction site in accordance with the current legal provisions, and within the context of their management or supervisory roles

• Have an understanding of their responsibilities and accountability for construction site health and safety and the welfare of workers

• Recognise that a safe construction site is efficient, economical and productive
